If you’re unsure if AG1 Next Gen is right for your health needs, you’ve come to the right place. While Athletic Greens (AG1) states its greens powder is for everyone, as individuals, we all have different nutritional requirements and goals. In my work as a registered dietitian, identifying personal health differences is at the core of nutrition care.
Finding the best AG1 alternative may mean looking for a unique blend to meet your needs, such as help with bloating discomfort, athletic recovery, or stress management. I’ve researched many green supplements on the market and compiled the seven best Athletic Greens alternatives.
After considering the most common health concerns I run into, here are the top alternatives that aim to help those issues:
If you’ve tried AG1 and it’s not for you, that’s okay! There are plenty of other excellent supplements out there. When I examine green powders, my criteria for a premium product are high-quality ingredients, rigorous care and testing in production, and no unnecessary additives.
The following AG1 Next Gen alternatives meet these standards, so you can feel good about finding the best greens powder to help meet your needs.

Best AG1 Alternative Greens Powder
Price per serving: $1.33
Topping my list is Super Greens from Live it Up. This product is an affordable, all-natural, greens powder built from a tightly curated blend of superfoods and certified organic botanicals and vegetables, with quality prioritized at every step of production.
Digestion: With 5 billion CFU probiotics from four different strains, as well as three plant-based digestive enzymes, Live it Up Super Greens may aid gut health and help support digestion.
Immunity: Super Greens is made from 16 superfoods and organic vegetables to support your immune response, delivering naturally derived nutrients and antioxidants your regular diet may be lacking.
Energy: When your body gets the micronutrients it needs to produce energy, including iron, it’s more likely to keep you fueled through long days. Super Greens is packed with chlorophyll-rich plants and enzymes that help convert energy and maintain balanced levels.
Super Greens has a wide array of 16 superfood ingredients, from microalgae spirulina and chlorella to seaweed, cereal grasses like wheatgrass, and herbs. The blend also includes nutrient-packed green vegetables like broccoli, kale, and spinach, plus roots like ginger and dandelion. Each serving equals three cups of vegetables.
Live it Up Super Greens has two flavors: Original, which has a subtle mint flavor; and Wild Berry, which has a refreshing, tart berry taste with a hint of citrus. Both are mildly sweet, resulting from the inclusion of monk fruit. The flavors seem to be widely enjoyed by Super Greens customers. As for texture, Super Greens subscribers note the fine powder mixes well with beverages and other foods without a gritty texture.
With a broad range of superfoods, probiotics, and micronutrients, Live it Up Super Greens is my top recommendation and an excellent choice to help with energy, digestion, immune defense, and bolstering your overall diet. It’s a refreshingly all-natural approach to the greens powder space with delicious flavors at half the price of AG1.
“As a Registered Dietitian, I have found that most people could use a boost to their diets to help meet vitamin and mineral requirements. The typical American diet is generally low in fiber as well as vitamins and minerals from fruits and veggies, providing an opportunity for greens supplements to fulfill that gap.” — Jordan Hill, MCD, RD, CSSD

Best Greens Powder for Flavor Variety
Price per serving: $1.01
Bloom Nutrition has garnered a massive following due to its approachable brands and variety of trendy products, and its Greens & Superfoods powder backs that up with its wide variety of fruity flavors. Made with 30+ ingredients, including fiber, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and antioxidant-rich fruits, Bloom is a solid selection for anyone who’s given up on greens powders because they can’t stand the grassy taste.
Digestion and Gut Health: Bloom combines a fiber blend (chicory root, flaxseed, apple fruit powder) with prebiotics and three probiotic strains to help support a healthy gut. That said, Bloom doesn’t disclose the CFU count of its probiotics per dose, so I can’t determine whether this dose meets the typical minimum threshold for effectiveness (most greens powders designed to support gut health include between 1 and 10 billion CFUs).
Bloating: Bloom contains six digestive enzymes, including amylase, cellulase, and lipase, which may help support the breakdown of food and ease bloating discomfort. The formula also features ginger root extract, which also aids with bloating.
Energy: Bloom’s adaptogen blend, which includes ingredients like ashwagandha, Rhodiola, American ginseng, astragalus, and licorice root, may help support the body’s stress response, which can play a role in sustaining natural energy levels.
Bloom's formula centers on organic spirulina and chlorella for its green superfood base, a fiber blend built from chicory root and flaxseed, and a trio of probiotic strains paired with blue agave inulin as a prebiotic. Rounding out the formula is an adaptogen blend (ashwagandha, rhodiola, American ginseng) and a mix of antioxidant-rich fruits like acai, goji berry, and tart cherry. However, Bloom’s overall superfood quantity is relatively small, with less than 3g per scoop.
While Bloom still offers more variety than most other greens powders on this list, the company recently cut down its flavor options from 8-10 to 5. The remaining flavors include: Mango, Citrus, Orange & Passionfruit, Strawberry, and Berry. Most customers report a pleasant, fruit-forward taste with minimal grit, however, the stevia sweetener means some may find it too sweet, with a few noting a lingering aftertaste.
If flavor variety is a top priority for you, and you have an inkling toward fruity, sweet flavors, Bloom Greens & Superfoods is an option worth exploring. Just keep in mind that its probiotic count isn’t disclosed, so if gut health is your primary goal, a formula with a confirmed CFU count may be a better fit.

Best Greens Powder for Probiotics
Price per serving: $1.60
Vibrant Health Green Vibrance is a legacy brand with one of the highest amounts of probiotics in a greens powder on the market today. Like other products on this list, Vibrant Health prioritizes quality in its supplements.
Gut Health: Probiotics are live organisms, such as bacteria and yeast, that may provide benefits such as digestive balance. With 25 billion CFU along with 6 digestive enzymes, Green Vibrance brings gut health front and center. The blend also contains prebiotic fibers which not only feed the beneficial bacteria but also our intestinal cells, helping to keep both flourishing.
This greens powder contains over 65 functional foods, including microalgae and seaweed; a variety of vegetables like broccoli and carrot root; cereal grasses like oat and barley; as well as herbs like ginkgo leaf extract.
Green Vibrance comes in four flavors: Original, Blueberry Lemon, Chocolate Coconut, and Peach Mango. Though many customers enjoy the slightly vanilla and deeply grassy flavor of Green Vibrance, others say it’s too earthy and not very tasty, despite the multiple flavor options. While it mixes well with a blender or shaker bottle, there may still be some detectable grit remaining.
If robust gut health support is a big priority for you, then Vibrant Health Green Vibrance and its large dose of probiotics may be the right fit, though the flavors may be an acquired taste.

Best Greens Powder for Athletes
Price per serving: $1.50
Made by Jocko Fuel, Jocko Greens claims to promote sports performance and recovery through its proprietary blend. Filled with high-quality, thoroughly tested ingredients, adaptogens, and probiotics, Jocko may support immunity, muscle recovery, and digestion.
Gut Health: With 9 billion CFU of probiotics and 2g of fiber, Jocko Greens may support a healthy gut microbiome. However, the formula lacks digestive enzymes, which are important for nutrient absorption.
Immunity and Energy: Jocko Greens includes antioxidant-rich ingredients like acai, wild blueberry, cranberry, and organic broccoli sprout, which may help support the body's natural defenses. For energy, the formula provides iron at 17% of your daily value, a mineral that plays a role in oxygen transport.
Jocko Greens contains an organic vegetable blend, an organic fruit blend, a probiotics blend, and 3 adaptogens. Most ingredients are organic, and the fruit and veggie blends contain popular superfoods like organic spirulina, organic wheatgrass, organic kale, organic chlorella, organic oat grass, organic pineapple, organic banana, organic goji juice, and organic acai, among others. When it comes to adaptogens, Jocko Greens uses milk thistle powder, organic Ashwagandha, and rhodiola extract.
The two flavor options, pineapple coconut and peach, are both sweetened with allulose and monk fruit. To me, this makes for a very sweet flavor with a gritty texture. Customer reviews are mixed, with some finding it a bit too sweet and unpleasant to drink, while others love the taste.
Jocko Greens is best for people looking to supplement their lifestyle routine with plenty of fruits and veggies, but don’t mind the sweet flavor or lack of digestive enzymes and prebiotics.

Best AG1 Dupe Greens Powder
Price per serving: $1.37
Primal Harvest’s Primal Greens powder features 50 superfood ingredients for overall health that in many ways mimics AG1’s formula approach. The company sources high-quality, sustainable ingredients and backs them with GMP-certified manufacturing and rigorous third-party testing.
Gut Health: Primal Greens contains 1 billion CFU of probiotics. Though this CFU count is low compared to other greens supplements on this list, the formula also contains a digestive complex with prebiotic apple fiber and 5 digestive enzymes, which may promote smooth digestion.
Immunity: Primal Greens discloses several immune-supporting nutrients on its label including vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B12, zinc, and copper, as well as immune-supporting superfoods like acerola cherry, reishi mushroom, and maitake mushoom. Take note that the B12 in this formula is dosed at 1042% of the daily value, so those already taking a B-complex or multivitamin should be mindful.
Energy: Of the vitamins and minerals listed on Primal Greens’ supplement facts panel, research has linked 3 of them—vitamins C, B12, and zinc—to energy production. Additionally, green tea leaf is included in the Nutrient Dense Natural Herbs and Extracts Blend, which may add a slight amount of caffeine to the formula.
Primal Greens breaks its ingredients into 4 proprietary blends. The Superfood Antioxidant and Mushroom Blend is the largest and contains ingredients like cracked cell wall chlorella, alfalfa leaf, carrot, wheat grass, spinach, spirulina, reishi mushroom, and maitake mushroom, among others. Some of the ingredients in the Nutrient Dense Natural Herbs and Extracts blend include acacia gum, acerola cherry extract, turmeric root, ginger root, ashwagandha, and chlorophyllin.
Primal Greens is only available in the original flavor, which has mixed reviews. According to the website, the powder has a “neutral, earthy aroma with a hint of sweetness,” and a number of customers enjoy the mildly sweet taste. On the other hand, some reviewers mention that the grassy flavor and lingering stevia aftertaste make it unpleasant to drink. Thanks to the powder’s fine texture, Primal Greens has a smooth texture with minimal need for remixing.
Primal Greens checks the boxes for fruits and veggies, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and prebiotic fiber that you’d want in an AG1 competitor. However, this all-in-one greens powder lacks organic ingredients and multiple flavor options to try if the earthy taste isn’t your favorite.

Best Greens Powder for Stress
Price per serving: $2.40
Daily Greens Plus, a greens powder rich in adaptogens, is produced by Thorne, a company well known for its rigorously tested supplements to fit a variety of health needs.
Stress: In today’s fast-paced world, stress affects many people. High stress not only impairs our daily outlook on life but also affects almost every major system in our body. The adaptogens and mushrooms in Thorne may help with your body’s response to stress, which can help you find a better balance.
With 28 ingredients, Thorne Daily Greens Plus not only focuses on adaptogens, but also contains a mushroom blend, greens blend including matcha and spirulina, and added antioxidants such as Coenzyme Q10 and Nicotinamide riboside. Note that there is some caffeine in this blend (35mg).
This greens powder has only one flavor, which is minty with a hint of ginger and added monk fruit for sweetness. Some customers enjoy this flavor combination while others say it takes time to get used to.
Most customers say the texture of Daily Greens Plus is smooth. However, if not mixed well, it may clump and allow powder to settle at the bottom of the glass.
Daily Greens Plus by Thorne has quality ingredients and reliable testing you can count on. This powder is a good choice for people who want the veggies of a greens powder while helping them manage stress in their daily lives.

Best All-In-One Supplement Alternative
Price per serving: $2.61
A collaboration between celebrity athlete David Beckham and biotech company Prenectics, IM8 features a comprehensive vitamin powder with 92 nutrient-dense ingredients per serving. It’s also committed to safety and quality and approved for athletes, as it’s third-party tested and NSF Certified for Sport.
Nutrient Gaps: IM8 primarily positions itself as a multivitamin supplement with 26 total nutrients, many of which exceed recommended daily values. While this certainly offers a dense nutrient boost, users taking other supplements should be careful of megadosing on too many vitamins and minerals.
Gut Support: IM8 includes various gut-supporting ingredients, including six digestive enzymes, prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics. These ingredients each play a role in supporting and balancing the microbiome. For example, prebiotics provide a food source for the probiotics, while digestive enzymes help your body break down food that your gut absorbs for energy.
Energy Balance: IM8 may also help sustain energy levels due to the inclusion of CoQ10, B vitamins, digestive enzymes, and magnesium. These help break down food and convert it into fuel for the body.
Featuring a massive list of 92 ingredients, IM8 includes a variety of proprietary blends, including a Raw Superfoods, Greens, Fruits, and Herbs Complex; Hydra Electrolytes Complex; and a Digestive Enzymes, Adaptogens, and Super Mushrooms Complex. From artichoke and milk thistle to reishi mushroom and seaweed extracts, this formula is stuffed with nutritious superfoods.
IM8 now comes in three flavors: Açaí + Mixed Berries (earthy with a subtle tartness and a hint of chocolate), Lemon + Orange (tangy and bright with a clean, uplifting finish), and Mango + Passion Fruit (a tropical, sweet-tart profile). While some customers enjoy the fruit-forward flavors, others complain about the aftertaste and the formula's grainy texture that can be difficult to dissolve.
Though not a greens powder, IM8 provides a nutrient-packed formula that claims to replace 16 daily supplements. This powder is good for those looking to vastly increase their nutrient intake and support their gut health.
AG1 is a well-known greens powder made of a plethora of dried, powdered plants developed to not only increase your vegetable intake but also cover all your supplement needs and offer nutritional benefits. AG1 Next Gen aims to offer “whole body benefits” through foundational nutrition.
AG1 stated health claims: Supports gut health, aids energy, helps with stress and mood balance, and supports a healthy immune system.
AG1 Next Gen formula:
So, does AGI work? While AG1 may certainly be the right choice for many people, there are several reasons why you may be inclined to look for an Athletic Greens alternative.
According to Catalina Ruz, RDN, “On days when consuming enough vegetables proves consistently challenging, a greens powder can be a convenient solution. It offers an easy way to boost your intake, especially during busy times.”
I agree wholeheartedly, which is why it’s crucial to make sure you take the right product. Generally, my scientific background in nutrition means I’m skeptical of health claims about dietary supplements.
It’s critical to note that these health claims are not monitored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, so a company can very easily make statements about their product that are not backed up by research. For this reason, I always conduct my own analysis of a product before I consider recommending it to a client. Here are a few factors I take into consideration when choosing the best greens powders:
Greens powders are taken to help close nutrient gaps and get superfoods and antioxidants not normally found in our diets—so making sure the product chosen has a comprehensive vegetable and superfood repertoire is high on my list.
I look for a greens powder with these foundational ingredients:
Some greens powders add guar gum, silicon dioxide (silica), or other fillers in their blends, which take away valuable space for more superfoods. Other blends may use artificial sweeteners like xylitol, sucralose, or aspartame that you may want to avoid. I often advise my clients to choose all-natural formulas without fillers or artificial additives.
Organic preferred. Because most greens powders are concentrated forms of plants, I’d rather have those concentrated ingredients be organic to help avoid some pesticides and herbicides.
Third-party testing and GMP certification. A company that cares for its product and customers goes to lengths to provide a safe, reliable greens powder supplement by putting it through rigorous testing with a third party and having it manufactured in a GMP-certified facility. Other certifications like Non-GMO Project Verified or NSF-certified are a plus!
If there are alleged health benefits that make a product too good to be true, it probably is. Blatant exaggeration about supplement results, such as weight loss or detoxification, should be looked at with a critical eye. What research is supporting these claims?
After digging into the research and analyzing the pros and cons, I’ve compiled several exceptional AG1 alternatives that meet specific health needs. From Live it Up Super Greens to Green Vibrance and Jocko Greens, there are many high-quality choices to help meet your goals.
Of course, I can’t sign off without being candid on the importance of leafy greens, fruits, and whole foods in your diet for longevity and good health. Unfortunately, with our crazy schedules (and our taste buds!), we just can’t always eat to meet these goals. Use your preferred super greens powder to give your diet a boost, get nutrients you normally wouldn’t, and help make it through those busy days when getting enough veggies just isn’t in the cards.
As with all supplements, be sure to chat with a registered dietitian or healthcare professional before adding any new ones to your diet.
Before making your final decision, here are some frequently asked questions that may help you choose the best AG1 alternative for your needs.
I've tested many other greens powders on the market. Although it depends on your health needs and goals, Live it Up Super Greens is one of the best alternatives to AG1. Like AG1, Super Greens aims to bridge the gap left by modern diets. However, with only 16+ dense superfood ingredients, probiotics, and enzymes, I believe Super Greens can deliver on many of the same health promises. Additionally, at $1.33 per serving, it’s more affordable for daily use.
Considering the high price point, AG1 Next Gen may not be worth it for you. Compared to the affordable price and all-natural ingredients of Live it Up Super Greens, I believe AG1’s high volumes of nutrients, lack of organic ingredients, and use of silica and stevia do not warrant the $79+ per month.
As for its health benefits, everyone has different health needs and goals, so although AG1 may work for some people, it may not work for others. From reported results and taste to the price, there are a number of reasons customers may look for an alternative powdered supplement.
Live it Up Super Greens, Jocko Greens, Primal Greens, Green Vibrance, Bloom Greens, Thorne Daily Greens Plus, and IM8 Health are seven Athletic Greens alternatives worth considering.
Often, yes. Many clients who feel they “eat pretty well” and take supplements like greens powders still benefit from expert fine-tuning with a registered dietitian, especially if they’re trying to work on their digestion, performance, weight plateaus, or long-term health.
