What to expect in your first session with this dietitian?
We begin our first session getting to know each other. I'll complete an in-depth nutrition nutrition assessment by gathering details on your health, nutrition, lifestyle, and sport habits. Together, we'll explore your goals and come up with practical, realistic strategies to start achieving them. By the end of the session, you'll have a clear understanding of your long-term goals and plan. I'll provide some initial nutrition education to empower you with first steps to get started on your plan.

Approach to care

I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a Bachelor's degree in Exercuse & Sports Science, a Master's degree in Nutritional Science, and over 5 years of counseling experience. In my work, I help athletes fuel better to perform better using realistic nutrition strategies that optimize athletic performance and overall wellness. I specialize in working with competitive athletes who have a history of disordered eating habits or who are looking to improve their mindset around nutrition. As a former collegiate track and cross country athlete myself, I understand what it’s like to have big athletic goals, a busy schedule, and way too much nutrition information at your fingertips. My personal “healthy” eating turned to an obsession at some point during my NCAA Division I athletic career. I sat out several seasons due to recurring injuries because, at the time, I didn’t understand that my under-fueling could be playing a factor in this issue. I found out the hard way that performance nutrition is a multi-faceted science, far more complex than eating the “healthiest” food or having the lowest body fat percentage. Now, I help active individuals fuel their training and live their best lives.

Hobbies

I enjoy an active lifestyle that includes running, hiking, biking and being in nature. Since I live close to the ocean and not the mountains, I have to save most of the hiking for trips and time away. My family and I enjoy beach time whenever possible, and sometimes we even bike to the beach!

More About This Dietitian

I empower athletes to reach their full potential on and off the field without being restrictive with food. I believe that all foods can have a place in a balanced diet. I want you to learn how to fuel for your sport with high quality nutrition, while considering your food preferences and “fun” foods. My job is to help guide you into nutrition strategies that translate into greater strength, faster times, better energy, and a healthier mindset - while working toward your unique goals.

"This Dietitian helped me get my life back”

Gia M.

While healing my relationship with food I also made huge progress towards becoming a healthy weight. In doing such I believe I have become a much stronger, faster, and more confident runner. I can't express how grateful I am for how much Janel guided me and encouraged me with my nutrition. I can't even imagine being in the place I was before seeing Janel regarding food; I have come so far and I almost feel like a different person.

Maggie W., Fort Lauderdale, FL, February 2023

I now know how to portion meals and what foods to incorporate in meals that fuel me for practice. I achieved being comfortable around different types of food and choosing a variety of foods instead of limiting options. I also created habits to eat throughout the day to help me overeat less at night. My energy has improved throughout the day and at practice.

Fran T., Fort Lauderdale, FL, January 2022

Pre-workout nutrition has really helped me during my drills. In the past I always went into workouts empty because I was against eating prior to workouts. I felt drained. I now feel more fueled for workouts. I feel like I can deliver more without using as much energy or feeling as drained. I have more inside myself than I realized.
